branches

Empty tree branches standing against the sunset glow.

The photos taken during my hike on the Great Wall of China! I went up there today with two friends and had a great time! I shall post more photos of the Great Wall in my next blogpost. Now I am tired, and just want to have a good night's rest after a long day of walking and climbing.

orange dot

It was Sunday and I slept through the whole day. I woke up at 6pm and realized it was already dark out. Kinda depressing in a way. Went out to eat some food, then came back, washed some clothes, called a friend, surfed the net, and now it's time for bed again...

Photo taken during Saturday's sunset, near Tiananmen Square.

In brief, my week went like this: worked Monday to Friday, went out Saturday, slept Sunday.
Perhaps Sundays should just be reserved for sleeping.

End of October is here. 2 more months till my internship ends, 3 more till I leave China. The weeks go by fast enough, but my overall time here is long.

golden reflection

The days are getting shorter and shorter; even when I just finish work, the sky has already begun to darken.

I am back in San Jose, where I can see the palm trees again.

before sundown

My last set of photos taken in beautiful Prague.
The sky got gradually darker as these pictures were taken.

I love taking photos during sunset. The sky gets so incredibly fascinating at this time of the day, every day. No sunset is ever the same.

dusk at Vltava

Taken at the bridges over Vltava River, Prague.

Pour les jours qui viennent, je veux profiter de mes soirées à sortir plus souvent en ville afin d'éviter trop de  temps de solitude dans ma chambre, devant mon écran, enveloppée par des pensées tristes...

Prague - day one!

PRAHA - první den!

I woke up at 5am today because of my jetlag. The plus side of this was that I got to see the sun rise from the rooftop window of my hostel room!

The free breakfast at the hostel. I ate it with my hostel roommate. She is a middle-aged lady from Slovakia. We did not speak the same language but we manage to exchange a few words with Google Translator!

I went to Prague 2 in the morning to view a room in a shared flat. It looked good and the price was decent - so I accepted it!
I am no longer homeless in this foreign city... yay!

I got a new cell and a new number. It is one of the cheapest and most basic cells! I've had two more like this before lol (one from Canada; another from France)

I passed by Old Prague to do a bit of sight-seeing. It was a brief and superficial visit.

It is a beautiful place and I will need to come back again (hopefully with a local guide) to have a better understanding of what I'm seeing!

I do not understand why there are nets here.

A little bird on his head :)

I like how these two women were just sitting there and having a good time looking at the pictures they just took with each other!

After seeing Old Prague, I took the metro back to my hostel to move all my stuff to my new place.

My new room! Not huge, but sufficient for me. It comes fully furnished (incl. desk + chair not captured here). I am sharing 2 bathrooms and an equipped kitchen with 4-5 other foreigners. My rent (incl. utilities + internet) is 7000CZK, about 400CDN.

I took a walk in the evening. I have seen many parks like this: lots of benches and big grass area. Many people just go sit there, to rest, to eat, to chat with their friend/lover, and maybe also to people-watch.

I sat at one of those benches and ate a sandwich. It was an OK sandwich. Not too sure what that light orange sauce was (maybe a kind of mayo...).

One of the main metro stations in Prague. I took the metro to go to Charles Bridge.

Walking on Charles Bridge, constructed in the 14th-15th century.  A very beautiful, wide and long bridge that crosses the Vltava River in Prague!

An artist doing sketches on the bridge. There were many like him along the bridge.

One of the 30 statues on the bridge. I found them all fascinating and would have loved to know who each of these characters were and their significance to Czech history.

On my way back home!

It has been a good first day in Prague!  I was productive with getting things done, and most importantly, I'm glad I found a place to live. Being in a new city and not speaking the local language does make me feel like an alien. I don't always know what's going on or where to find what I want. But it's okay! I don't get too frustrated by it. I still manage to get around quite alright. But while I am here, I want to try to learn some basic Czech. Tomorrow I will begin internship. I look forward to see my work place and to meet some of my co-workers!

I'm happy.

****

Today was just a really good day and I was in a great mood all day!
In the morning, I got my summer internship confirmed and I was so excited!! I got the kind of work I wanted to do and I'm going to Prague, my dream city! I couldn't be happier with this wonderful opportunity!

I also had a great lunch with a couple of my friends/classmates on a grassy hill on campus. It was so sunny... so nice and relaxing... we were sitting up there, chatting with each other, joking around and laughing,  watching other people do their activities... I really cherish moments like this!

I spent the rest of my afternoon shopping for summer clothes. I bought a few and I can't wait to wear them lol! ^^

Life is good and I'm happy!

skyline at sunset

Taken on the seabus ride to Vancouver last Saturday.

*****

Reading week is over. Classes have resumed. I was happy to see some of my classmates again, but other than that, I am not too thrilled about the pile of work I have to do. Also, I am getting a bit stressed out about internship applications.

Once again, time is going by too fast. I don't feel like I am always using it too efficiently.

a walk in the park

Spent part of my afternoon walking at a park in Mountain View with my parents. I enjoyed the sceneries and it was a pleasant walk! Because it was sunny, I got to capture the sun light in my photos.

***

I am currently reading a good novel called Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. I find his style of writing very beautiful. The story is filled with nostalgia, and although there is not much resemblance between my life and those of the main characters', I feel moved by the tragedies and happiness in their lives.

Skytrain station

Caught a glimpse of the sunset as I was heading towards the Vancouver airport.

I am back in San Jose, CA, at my parents' place. A sunny day today, currently 15°C.
